Brrr, the British southwest’s a cold place to be today. I woke to a world whited out by fog, and the view from the office window is still thickly shrouded. It’s filled me with a craving for soft, warm, knitted things: gloves and scarves and hats please!
In fact, the main thing I’m coveting right now is a pair of wristwarmers. Mittens are snuggly but not always practical, and even gloves are cumbersome when trying to slip train passes from their plastic wallets into barriers. Wristwarmers, protecting the main part of the hands but leaving fingers free for tricky tasks are ideal!
So I’ve been looking through old copies of Simply Knitting and The Knitter for the ideal pattern, and have come up with the perfect pair! Featured in SK73, our November 2010 issue, the Angora Mitts pictured above were designed by Elizabeth Jarvis, and are exactly what I’m after!
Equally gorgeous are Kirstie McLeod's 'One Pattern, Three Looks' fingerless gloves in issue 86. I think I like the max lace, no rib option best.
It’s unlikely I’ll get these knitted up before I head home tonight, so perhaps a lunchtime visit to M&S, where some rather nice fingerless knitted gloves are being sold from £10.00, is in order. Though, of course, it wouldn’t be a satisfying as knitting my own.
