Little Lamb Wool blog: The joy of ethical yarns

Artesano YarnsSally Goodwill from Little Lamb Wool talks us through her passion ofr Artesano yarns, for both ethical and aesthetical reasons.

We’ve just taken delivery of the scrumptious 100% alpaca DK & 4ply from Artesano. It’s a truly eco yarn produced in small co-operatives in Peru and Bolivia supporting local communities and shipped rather than flown to the UK. It feels really soft, so there’s absolutely no itchy scratchiness when you wear this one! They are beautiful yarns in their own right even without considering the eco value of them.

To me the colours are just gorgeous – we have 12 shades now in stock, with adult and children’s patterns to support them. My personal favourite is ‘Bolivia’, a vibrant teal colour.

The fact Artesano are from co-operatives in Peru and Bolivia mainly employing younger women with families is what really struck a chord with me – if I was from Bolivia or Peru I might be working for Artesano dying their wonderful yarns!

For anyone into dying yarns themselves, I have some truly gorgeous loose hanks of Bluefaced Leicester yarn, limited stock, available in single hanks or by the kilo, once it’s gone its gone…
