Let your knitting shine

This season will be all about twinkly yarns, as we look forward to Christmas, so now’s a great time to start thinking about what you’d like to make - and wear!

There are some great glimmer-infused yarns out there at the moment, including King Cole’s new Glitz DK and Sirdar’s subtly shimmering Softspun Chunky.

We’ve always been fans of sparkly shrugs to pop over dresses for Christmas parties, but if you’re feeling bold, you could do worse than to take inspiration from up and coming designer Caitlin Charles-Jones, a recent graduate from Kingston University, and due to start an MA in Womenswear Knitwear at the RCA this September.

For Graduate Fashion Week, Caitlin created six knitted outfits embellished with a grand total of 600 Swarovski crystals, which she painstakingly sewed on using tubular knitting. You can see an example of her work at the top of this post. Impressive, and dramatic!

Mahliqa knitted braceletIf that sounds a bit daunting (it does to us!), why not give knitted jewellery a try? This starter bracelet kit from Mahliqa comes with 58 Swarovski crystals, silver-plated wire, fastenings and full instructions for just £18. So pretty!
