Knit for our Refuge campaign

Be inspired to knit for Refuge with our charming teddy bear pattern and our exclusive blanket square design in Simply Knitting 96.

We launched our Bears & Squarescharity campaign for Refuge last month in Simply Knitting and our sister magazine, The Knitter, and we’re delighted to be able to tell you that many readers (you may be one of them!) have already picked up their needles to start work on their cot blankets and teddy bears, to be given to the children staying in Refuge’s ‘safe houses’.

You can download our teddy knitting pattern, kindly provided by Val Pierce and Search Press, in return for a small donation to Refuge.

We’re bringing you new blanket square patterns to inspire you – you can see our latest design from Julie Ferguson in Simply Knitting issue 96 – and you can get hold of our blanket square e-book from the JustGiving page.

Knit for RefugeThe Knitter editor, Juliet Bernard, has been busy knitting up her own teddies (pictured above). “I’ve made three so far, and it’s been lots of fun,” she says. “Reggie is celebrating the Diamond Jubilee and Olympic Games, while Ruby loves to look pretty in pink and Reef is bang on trend in blue and purple!”

If you’d like to make a blanket, we suggest you use a DK-weight yarn to make 15cm squares. We’re asking for cot blankets measuring four squares by six, or kids’ blankets measuring six squares by eight. Please note, we cannot accept donations of individual squares.

You can send your completed blankets and teddy bears to: Fundraising/Simply Knitting, Refuge, 4th Floor, International House, 1 St Katharine’s Way, London E1W 1UN. The closing date is 1 December 2012. Or you can bring your donations to our stand at The Knitting & Stitching Show in London on 11-14 October.

Don’t forget that we are also running a blanket square design competition, with great prizes up for grabs!
