This autumn you can warm your head and raise some money for homelessness charity St Mungo’s at the same time with Woolly Hat Dat 2012.

St Mungo’s is asking knitters across the country to get their needles and yarn out to help create a mountain of orange bobble hats for its third annual Woolly Hat Day on Friday 26 October.
The distinctive orange hats will then be auctioned off to raise money for St Mungo's work supporting homeless people to rebuild their lives.
The lovely Ed Byrne (pictured left) is again supporting the charity, and says: “Use your head and put a hat on to show your support for the groundbreaking work that St Mungo’s does for our homeless population.” Who are we to refuse?
“We’re appealing to knitters to help us make a big impact on this October’s Woolly Hat Day. As the nights draw in and the temperature drops, life becomes even more difficult for anyone sleeping on the streets,” says Russell Benson, St Mungo’s community and events fundraising coordinator. “By getting your needles and yarn out and creating a ‘mountain’ of hats, you’ll be helping us to raise awareness and funds for our work supporting homeless and vulnerable people.”
You can get hold of the official Woolly Hat Day bobble hat knitting pattern, designed by CalKnits, at the Woolly Hat Day website.
Alternatively, get a special pre-made Woolly Hat Day knitting kits.
Once your hat or hats are made, send it in to the kind folks at Loop, who have agreed to store the hats for St Mungos. The address to post them to is Loop, St Mungo's WHD Appeal, 15 Camden Passage, Islington, London, N1 8EA.
Just imagining all those bright orange hats piling up makes us smile!
