There’s no doubt that you can date someone by the children’s programmes they remember – repeats not withstanding (I recall episodes of The Magic Roundabout being reshown when I was a student – perfect post-club telly!).

For me it was very much The Flumps, (which resembled furry baked potatoes) Bagpuss and Willo The Wisp – whimsical viewing that fans of today’s In The Night Garden might enjoy.
Folks just slightly older than me remember whole other worlds of kooky characters, including the rather fabulous Clangers (pictured above and below, left, courtesy of Collins and Brown) - strange creatures resembling anteaters which inhabited a curious blue planet far far away.
Not having ever seen an episode, I’ve found myself fascinated by the new book from Collins and Brown called Clangers: Make the Clangers and Their Planet.
Whether or you grew up with Major Clanger, Mother Clanger, Small Clanger and Tiny Clanger or not, you’re bound to be drawn into their unique world! The book is beautifully put together, with descriptions of all the family members and their motley, magical collection of friends, plus step-by-step directions on making everything from the surface of the blue moon where they live to the Clangers themselves, knitted in Tea Rose 025Rowan Pure Wool DK.
It’s all so enticing you may well find yourself searching YouTube for snippets of the old episodes!
Clangers: Make the Clangers and Their Planet is available from 02 August.
