Created by Kristiina Kolberg for Jenny Harrow's Pawsitive Knits campaign, this cute, quick, stash-friendly pattern will take just an hour or so to complete, and could bring a lot of happiness to a cat awaiting a new home at Dubin SPCA.
Kitten season lasts from May to October, during which time hundreds of homeless kittens arrive at the shelter, but while the volume of kittens mean the SPCA's resources must go towards the health of the kittens, the mental stimulaton of playing in equally important, which is where these knitted mice come in.
You can use up your leftovers from different projects, and yarn weight and gauge aren't really important so this is a really fun, simple project that will also do lots of good.
There are two patterns to choose from, the Pawsitive Mouse pattern, and the Pawsitive Mouselet pattern, which is ideal for the shelter's smallest kitty residents. Download either by clicking on the links.
Please post your finished cat toys to Dublin SPCA, Mount Venus Road, Rathfarnham, Dublin 16, Ireland.
If you would prefer not to send your mice to Ireland, Jenny says that’s fine. “Find out where your local cat shelter is, I'm sure they'd be delighted with the toys.”
