Craft books certainly seem to be big news this Christmas. Over the past year our inboxes have been groaning with press releases on exciting new releases, with review copies ensuring our desks and shelves are crammed with shiny volumes designed to inspire, inform and, quite frankly, get us buzzing with anticipation!
The book that has had me personally overcome with joy this year is the luscious ‘Everything Alice’ by Hannah Read-Baldrey and Christine Leech. The projects in this book are all as whimsical and beautiful as the story by Lewis Carroll.
I bought this book for my sister (who happens to be named Alice) in the hope she’ll start making the lovely things from it and, ahem, giving them to me. What?! I have a birthday in 2012, y’know!
Currently I have my eye on the Heart Letter Holder and the White Rabbit Mask – such extraordinary ears!
In KnitLand, the books that have caught my eye include Jamieson & Smith’s ‘Knit Real Shetland’, which includes some truly irresistible patterns, all designed to be made in pure Shetland wool.
The one that’s had everyone talking, though, is '55 Christmas Balls to Knit' by Arne and Carlos – utterly festive, stylish and fun!
Our sister mag Mollie Makes recently published an online guide to their favourite 50 craft books. Whether you’re seeking titles for yourself or for crafting friends, you’re bound to find something amid these book-shelf treasures!
Ooh, and you still have time to enter Search Press' competition to win £100-worth of craft books. You just need to go to their Facebook page and upload a picture of your best Christmas craft creation – the most 'liked' at 5pm on Wed 21 Dec wins the prize!
