On the needles with Woolly Wormhead

In Simply Knitting Issue 105 we talked to hat fanatic and designer Woolly Wormhead. We couldn't fit all of the interview in the mag, so here are some extra bits and pieces!

Simply Knitting: When did you start knitting?

Woolly Wormhead When I was three years old!

SK: Who taught you to knit? What do you remember about learning to knit?

WW My Mum taught me, and I remember most of it. I don't remember being taught the knit and purl stitch, but I do remember her showing me how to do moss stitch on a practice square. I don't remember any difficulties as such, no moments of frustration, though I always had lots of questions.

Lovely lace

Have you tried lace knitting, or are you put off by its complexity? Whatever your skill level, we've found three great projects on The Making Spot - and best of all, you can currently buy them half-price in their Easter sale!

This Spring Leaves top by Heather Cawte is great for a beginners' lace pattern, as there's no shaping in the lace sections. This means you can get to grips with the lace pattern for the first few rounds of pattern repeats, without having to remember increases and decreases for the overall shaping.

Great ticket offers on three Creative Crafts shows

Over the next few months the Creative Crafts shows are coming to Belfast, Shepton Mallet and Manchester, and we have ticket discounts if you buy in advance.

The show takes place in Belfast's King's Hall from 18th-20th April, and it's the perfect opportunity to indulge in knitting, cross stitch, sewing, card making, embroidery, patchwork, quilting, beading, dressmaking, and much more! There's a programme of workshops throughout the day, and 'make and take' sessions hosted by experts in each craft.

Get creative with your kids this Easter

With the Easter holidays now underway, there's no better opportunity to get creative with your children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews or cousins. Over on The Making Spot we have a great selection of projects, whether you're interested in knitting, crochet, papercraft or cross stitch - and best of all, there's a half-price sale too - see below for our discount code!

These are just a few of our favourite projects to while away the hours this weekend...

Brighten up your home this Easter with this fabulous free papercraft bunting template by Jo-Anne Cavanagh. Everyone will love getting involved to make it, and it looks so pretty.
