Advertiser news: Stay cosy with a special offer from Cucumberpatch

Capelet cr Martin Storey/RowanIf you’ve already got your hands on a copy of Simply Knitting 90, you may have spotted our deliciously simple caplet by Martin Storey (p65).

Knitted in the round so there are no seams to sew, it’s made in Rowan Lima, a sumptuously soft blend of baby alpaca and merino wool in a chain construction that ensures it’s lightweight yet cosy – a fab alternative to whacking up the central heating yet again!

You can buy the yarn from Cucumberpatch who are offering a generous 15% discount to Simply Knitting readers – that means you get each 50g ball for £5.75 instead of £6.75!

It’s all lovely stuff but now the hard work begins, as I need to get everything on the Little Lamb Wool website! So over the next few days I will be taking lots of photos of balls of wool, including a new line from Sirdar ‘Baby Speckles’ and lots of new shades in other lines.

Simply Knitting issue 90 appears in shops today!

Simply Knitting issue 90 coverSimply Knitting issue 90 appears in shops today, packed with patterns, ideas and tips to help you get the most from your knitting life!

You never know how the decisions you make are going to turn out. One of the interesting things about meeting knitters is how knitting has changed their lives, whether in large or small ways. Some would say it hasn’t done anything for their bank balance! We know a few people who pretty much lived their lives dressed in black until they started to knit. Now, having deliberated over variegated yarns in various electric hues and oohed and aahed over fibres from alpaca to acrylic, they’re far more inclined to include a touch of colour in their outfits.

Inspiring reads - 200 Fair Isle Designs by Mary Jane Mucklestone

200 Fair Isle Designs coverFair Isle is one of those wonders in life where the finished result looks more complicated than the process that created it actually is. Although Fair Isle patterns can contain a multitude of colours, there’s never usually more than two in any one row.

This comprehensive guide walks you through the stages of knitting Fair Isle patterns and offers ideas for creating bespoke designs.

The book is clearly laid out, providing a comprehensive reference guide, and it’s attractive to leaf through when looking for inspiration. It has a skills section that demystifies techniques, and chapters on colour theory and design principles to help you choose the most appealing colour and pattern combinations.

Help out needy children!

We've had a phone call from a lady who has lots of knitters making items for Operation Christmas Child. Because of new regulations, they're no longer able to send toys containing stuffing in the boxes, so they're looking for patterns for stuffing-free finger and glove puppets.

If you have patterns to spare for these items, please contact Maggie - maggie DOT bate AT btopenworld DOT com  (replace the dots and ats as appropriately - we've written the address that way to reduce the amount of spam Maggie would receive.)

As always, please respect designers' copyrights and only send originals of patterns. No photocopying/ scanning!
